Marguerite Hughes at Gardening Group

July Gardening Group meeting - Marguerite Hughes

The Gardening Group speaker this month was Marguerite Hughes. With her own special brand of entertaining wisdom and demonstration skills she had us chuckling all morning.

She gave us a topical talk on taking cuttings to boost our numbers of flowers and shrubs and/or to grow a replica of tender plants that might not survive the winter. She also showed us how to collect and save seed to propagate for next year, plus she brought a selection of lovely plants for sale and didn’t have to take many home.

Lisa had a lot to get through for her introductory talk, the new parking arrangements at Lord Street West, the increased fees for Hall Hire, which happily won’t impact the admission fees just yet and booking on Beacon to attend the meeting.

It really is essential to book, if you can’t manage it just ask Lisa or Diane to do it for you, we love to see lots of members attend but the hall can only hold 80 folk and we absolutely do not want to have to turn members away because they haven’t booked and the hall is full. Also, we have to cater for everyone and we ran out of biscuits and milk last time, because we had so many people who hadn’t booked. So PLEASE book on Beacon.

Lastly, Lisa announced our plans for Christmas. A festive trip at the end of November to Leighton Hall for ‘Decking the Halls’ and a Christmas lunch at Chez Moi. All details will be published when we’ve recovered from building the Flower Show garden.

Don’t forget there is no meeting in August.
