Spaces Remaining for 2001: A Space Odyssey

2001: A Space Odyssey

On 24th May, Let’s Go are inviting members to watch a special showing of the iconic film ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’.

Enough people have already signed up to ensure this event will go ahead, but there are still spaces available in the 70 seat Bijou Cinema.

If you are interested, take a look at the information below, from the original post about this event.

In 1968 a film was released in the UK which made a great impact. “2001: A Space Odyssey” was the screen interpretation of Arthur C Clarke’s novel about exploration of the universe and the origins of man.

Stanley Kubrik’s meticulous direction meant the movie took 3 years to make and used what were, for the time, state-of-the-art camera work and production techniques. Looking at science fiction movies since, it is difficult to realise that 2001 was made without computers and CGI in particular.

This is a movie which must be seen on a cinema screen and with optimum sound equipment. Lets Go is promoting a special showing of the movie at the Bijou Cinema in Post Office Avenue, Southport. This luxurious 75-seat venue has particularly comfortable seating and a bar which permits drinks and snacks to be taken into the auditorium.

The showing will be on 24 May 2022 at 2:15. The movie takes 2.5 hours and will be preceded by a short introduction of the movie . There will be no adverts or trailers.

There is a suggestion that those interested might like to take an early dinner afterwards. Details on that to follow.

To cover our costs we need 20 people at £7.50 a head . If we get a larger group we will reduce the price, and if we fill it the cost will be £2 a head!

If you would like to join us please book yourself on Beacon. This event appears in the Lets Go section of Beacon but is open to any Southport U3a member. Alternatively, please contact Paul Carter via the Let’s Go group page.
