A group of members had a fascinating visit to the Veolia site which sorts and recycles all our household waste – along with most of the rest of Merseyside. We were amazed to see the scale and complexity of the operation that handles our waste. Nearly fully automated, this giant facility is operated by very few people yet still manages to handle 25 tonnes of our waste every hour 18 hours a day. We were amazed at the technology involved and the accuracy of the end products. The whole site is also geared to take large groups of visitors like ours, especially school children and the presentation was impressive.
