What a year! What an AGM! Our 2024 AGM set new standards in making meetings entertaining!
Yesterday we sadly said farewell to our Leader of 3 years, as Paddy stepped down as Chair with a sensational Irish send off from the the UKA-LADIZ, who put on an astonishingly good performance, and got the proceeding off to a very jolly start. Jim also stepped down, after managing the Membership for 7 years. Being a glutton for punishment, he has taken on running Out and About, with around 30 fun outings already planned. Brian hosted the AGM in excellent style, keeping us all in check but is also stepping down as Secretary this year.
Our new Chair, Christine Howorth, thanked everyone for all their tremendous input and support and introduced the new Committee.
— Lisa Fryer continues to manage all the fun big Events but steps up to Vice Chair as Chris’s right hand support.
— Roger Haigh takes over as Membership Secretary, having already managed all this year’s membership renewals.
— Yvonne McCulloch has already done great work as Business Networking, arranging discounts for our u3a members at Southport restaurants and upcoming local events.
— George Blanchard has taken on the TAM Magazine management and several group events.
— Last but by no means least, we are delighted welcome Deborah Kerr as Secretary, unfortunately arriving too late to be voted is she is co-opted into her new role and will take over from Brian.
The morning ended with the Wayfarers Barbershop Chorus, 14 gentlemen singing for us in perfect harmony. The Wayfarers are currently looking for new members, so if you fancy trying your hand at a cappella singing, just follow the link to their website and get in touch.
An absolutely exquisite and entertaining end to the 2024 AGM. How on earth can we top that next year?
