Hesketh Park – Just One Thing in June 25

Opened in 1868, Hesketh Park, our once gracious park with a grand conservatory, floral clock, a unique observatory, fountains and once important meteorological station has become rather tired. The good news is that change is underway. Supported by a generous bequest and the Hesketh Park Heritage Group work has been started to bring our beautiful park back. Undergrowth is being cut back, the waterfall and fountains are running again, the clock is being repaired, makers market stalls will soon appear at weekends and the gardens are being cared for.

There are various groups tending parts of the park and Southport u3a has been allocated the Queens Hall Entrance. The Just One Thing Hesketh Park Team will meet every fortnight on a Thursday at 1.30 pm and stay for up to 3 hours. Our work on this began in March and we would love to have some more volunteers to help with this amazing task.

We have been allocated a garden, overgrown with weeds and grass which we will restore and replant and hopefully bring back to its former glory. And yes its 40 m long – which given Southport u3a is 40 years old gives us a tick for another groups Birthday Milestone!

Note that all gardening equipment is provided by the Park and if you would like to join the Just One Thing Hesketh Park Group please add your name to the list or just come along or contact Mary from the group page.  Let’s help make our town beautiful.
