The Gardening Group recently enjoyed a return visit, by popular demand, to the annual Harrogate Autumn Show 2025, which takes place in the wonderful setting of Newby Hall, near Ripon. This is a very fine stately home, which not only was originally built in the 1690s by Sir Christopher Wren (also the architect of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London), it was later enlarged and adapted by renowned Eighteenth-century architect Robert Adam.
Not only were members able to explore all the traditional marquees, laden with fabulous autumn flower and produce displays; they were also spoilt for choice exploring Newby Hall and Gardens themselves; which included amazing floral displays within the Hall; a sculpture trail, beautiful flower borders, miniature train and boat rides within the gardens; Newby’s wonderful permanent Dolls House Exhibition and the ‘Bear House’ (home to Gyles Brandreth’s teddy bear collection).
