On Saturday’s June 14th the Atkinson based Learning Town Festival was packed and a great success.
Southport u3a members helped out at the launch. A table was manned by our u3a members, who directed the public to the various lectures and events throughout the day.
Barry Purcell and his Chess Group shared their games with many in the café and many new friends were met at the information table. More u3a brochures had to be sent for and an enjoyable day was had by all.
The star of the Learning Town Festival was outside, in the Atkinson Garden. Andrea Hatton, our u3a Group Coordinator, sang with her band Quandary, filling the town with music all afternoon. Passers-by were happily singing and dancing as they went, many stopping to join in, young and not so young.
The u3a ‘Pacemakers’ even joined in with a choreographed performance, singing ‘These Boots are made for Walking’.
MP Patrick Hurley attending, commented ’this is what our Town should be like, full of live music and happiness.’ Well done Southport u3a .
