Southport U3A

Flower Show Garden Construction

Southport Flower Show garden

All is going well with construction of the Southport u3a flower show garden, organised by our Gardening Group.

Day one was a glorious sunny day and we had a lovely gazebo to sit under. Brian worked like a trojan, digging out ten foundations for the fence posts then hand mixing the cement to fill them up.

Day two wasn’t so good, it lashed with rain all morning, so we were all braving the weather, Brian was joined by Derrik, Bear and Daisy the dog. They fixed in the post supports and started to install the fence, a tricky job as apparently our plot wasn’t level. By afternoon it was blowing a gale and our lovely gazebo took off, It was a long day, the chaps worked until nearly 7:00pm but still hadn’t finished the fence.

On day 3 our three heroes returned (plus Daisy the dog) and the fence was completed to their satisfaction by lunchtime – Hoorah!  In the afternoon we marked out the plot and got to know our neighbours. Next door we have two graduate landscape architects building a forest with a stream and wild flower meadow. Further down a couple of landscape gardeners are doing something fabulous with raised beds made out of sleepers, so don’t be expecting any prizes for the u3a!  There are three more gardens to be built but nobody is there yet, if they don’t turn up we may get a third!

If you plan to come along and visit our flower show garden, remember, you still have time to buy your tickets at a heavily discounted price, using the u3a discount code.
