On Saturday 7th September 2024 the coach trip group visited Biddulph Grange Gardens, the first of two National Trust properties in Staffordshire in one day.
Our first visit was to Biddulph’s amazing Victorian Garden which was created in the mid 19th century by James and Maria Bateman with Edward Cook the marine painter. There is series of connected compartments below the house with colourful planting all bordered by topiary hedges. We discovered in this spectacularly picturesque venue a Chinese landscape based on a Willow pattern design; a Himalayan Glen; an Egyptian Court and an Italianate garden plus geological gallery. In the flower beds there was an abundance of colour particularly from a large range of dahlias on display.
