Well, the team have just about got back to normal after the four days of The 2024 Southport Flower Show. They built a u3a Centenary Garden which celebrated 100 years of British garden styles, using five distinct periods from Victorian times through to today. Each segment illustrated the current ideas in gardening in that era with a huge variety of different flowers, shrubs, trees demonstrating the individual tastes through the ages.
And to complete the scene, all our volunteers hosting the garden dressed in styles suitable for the differing ages!!
We had thousands of visitors visit the garden, including over 500 u3a members from all over the country who had used their special u3a code to gain discounted entry. Our visitors book is full of great comments about how much they enjoyed our efforts and how much good we were doing for the u3a community.
And we were honoured to have a variety of u3a Headquarters people visit us, including Liz Thackray, u3a National Chair, Gillian Russell, NW Chair, Nelly Mair, Communications Director and quite a few more, all of whom were very complimentary about our efforts. Nelly also brought a camera crew to take lots of film around the show to use in u3a training and promotional videos.
A great, very successful effort and our thanks go to the whole team who created it. The 2024 Southport Flower Show was definitely a success.
