Members of Southport u3a found themselves in the Top Of The Pops studio this week, where they were thoroughly entertained by the United Voice Show Choir.
Billed as a ‘Tribute to 60 Years of Top Of The Pops’, the United Voice Show Choir performed some of the most well known songs from across the decades. Joining them in this special performance were a surprising number of superstars, including Louis Armstrong, Dusty Springfield, Freddy Mercury, Celine Dione, The Beatles, Abba, Cindi Lauper, The Village People, Pan’s People, The Spice Girls and a whole host of Elvises! How the choir managed to resurrect those of them no longer with us, for the performance, is a trade secret.
By the end of the show, the audience were well and truly Macarena’d and, though they must have been disappointed not to have seen all the TOTP presenters on stage at the same time, they were at least given the opportunity to choose their favourite song for the finale.
At the end, tribute was paid to the tragic events of the past week, with collections to be donated to the fundraising appeal for those effected. A total of £823.59 was collected! Thanks everybody who donated!
