Out of Your Comfort Zone recently had a trip to Shiverpool, a ghostly walk mostly around St James’ cemetery next to the Anglican Cathedral. From our gothic guides, through the tunnelled entrance and the gloomy weather, the atmosphere was set from the start.
21 of us were led through the ‘Dormitory of the Dead’ hearing ghoulish tales of the famous or infamous residents and their ghostly counterparts. We were shown a variety of headstones and memorials and had tunnels and catacombs lit by torchlight.
Our guides all had an amazing amount of knowledge of the place and entertained us for an hour and a half with their stories and dramatic delivery.
The beautifully lit Cathedral as a backdrop was a fine contrast to the dark and damp world that lay below.
