Southport U3A

Gardening Group April Meeting

Gardening

This month we were treated to a delightful talk by Alison Ryan, a professional garden designer who has been very helpful giving us much needed advice about our own Flower Show Garden.

Alison took us through the creation of her own garden in Bretherton, surrounding a house she moved into only 3 years ago, with images of every stage, with lots of invaluable advice and ideas to inspire us all.

Alison regularly opens her garden to visitors in summer, through the National Garden Scheme, along with some other beautiful gardens in the area, so well worth a visit.

She also showed us her the fabulous plant stands she makes out of pallets, I think a few of us will be having a crack at that. All the proceeds from the plant sale etc went to the Ukraine Appeal.

Then Chris gave us an update on the progress of our Flower Show Garden. We finally have our design brief application submitted with a beautiful painting done by Sue Corcoran, a Garden Group member who is also a professional artist.

The majority of the group are happy with ‘Refreshments on Arrival’ so we plan to continue with this plan as it makes our meetings run more smoothly and huge thanks to Dorothy who produces excellent and delicious hot tea and coffee for everyone.
