Southport U3A

June Monthly Meeting

June Monthly Meeting - Jubilee trifle

The June monthly meeting was again well attended by members and group leaders alike. The Gardening Group were collecting cereal boxes for the flower show and came armed with free gifts in the form of tomato plants.

The membership table was busy once again, a sure sign that Southport u3a is the place to be. Hopefully some of the new members will become volunteers of one form or other, as befits the u3a ethos.

This month’s speaker was John Coventry, whose presentation ‘Blonde on Blonde’ investigated the history of two famous blonde actors, Mae West and Marilyn Monroe. It is fair to say that this was very much ‘a game of two halves’, with Mae West’s history scattered with comedy whilst Marilyn Monroe’s was laced with sadness. The members all thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and several people were seen speaking to John following the meeting (perhaps more bookings for him).

Our Chair, Paddy, had prepared a special surprise for us, to mark the Platinum Jubilee. Unfortunately it wasn’t lashings of Jubilee Trifle, but I believe most, if not all, enjoyed the sing-along with backing from Ian Stern and colleague from our Guitar Groups.
