Christmas With The Photo Group

christmas with the photo group

The theme our Photo Group chose for their December challenge was, quite unsurprisingly, Christmas. A reasonably wide range of photos were submitted, from decorations to the end results of the festive period. You can view the images on our Christmas Gallery.

In addition to our normal monthly meeting, in January we were lucky enough to be offered a studio session, by fellow u3a member Steve Heatherill. Some members had previous experience of studio photography, but for others it was their first ‘exposure’ (sorry) to studio lighting.

Steve brought plenty of lighting equipment and guided members through a number of lighting combinations. The first setup was a standard portraiture configuration, to get members into the swing of things. We then went on to experiment with a single light, two side lights and other tweaks.

The members present all remarked upon how much they enjoyed the session and it was clear that, for some, it was also an opportunity to learn a different way of setting up their cameras.

You can see the results (and some pretty good looking models) in our Studio Session gallery.

To mark the start of 2025, our January theme is ‘New’, so it should be an interesting meeting in February as members work out how to represent that theme.
