At their meeting this month members of U3A Photography 2 were very seasonally exploring the theme of ‘April’. Their studies captured many beautiful aspects of Spring, from marvellous views of cherry blossom on Preston New Road, to daffodils, dazzling in every conceivable grouping of April splendour. Several photographs of bird life at Martin Mere were presented, showing a mother duck proudly surrounded by her fluffy brood, and a moorhen rearranging her nest round a clutch of eggs. A picture perhaps truer to the experience of this season, was a photograph by Sylvia, of a window so washed with rain that the view had the appearance of an Impressionist painting.
There followed a talk by Tony Thomas, the member volunteer this month to present his six images which had special meaning for him. Tony delighted members with vibrant studies on widely diverse subjects, ranging from his time as a voluntary freelance photographer, including his iconic shot of the fire that destroyed the Kingsway nightclub, to more recent pictures of croquet in Victoria Park and a group shot of a U3A ukulele group known as the Uke-A-Teers. A detailed discussion was then initiated by Stewart Reid on modern equipment available to be used for transferring and downloading slide photographs, which was followed by the selection of subjects for future meetings and members dispersed to cheerfully experiment with more images.
