Four members of Southport u3a Out&About group were really getting in the mood for Christmas on Monday afternoon, with a Christmas cake decorating masterclass.
They went along to the studio at Cake Creations in Wesley Street where they were welcomed by Meg, with all that they needed to create beautifully decorated Christmas cakes.
Everyone was supplied with a fruit cake, apricot jam, marzipan and various coloured icing.
They were shown how to marzipan a cake, which Meg made to look easy, they all managed that. Then, they were shown how to put on a layer of royal ice, creating a snow scene. Then they went on to be shown how to make robins, logs and holly. Meg was really patient with them all, giving advice or a hand where necessary.
What a result, four wonderfully decorated cakes with robins sitting happily on logs. All were delighted with their results, especially as each cake managed to resemble the two cakes Meg made.
The afternoon was finished off with each person taking home their own cake as well as being presented with a small gift. A measure to assist with future cake making and a Santa spiced biscuit. The recipe being that of Meg’s mother.
A great big ‘Thank you’ to Meg for a wonderful afternoon at the Christmas Cake Decorating Masterclass and to Christion Howarth for arranging it all. Merry Christmas to you all.
