If you are already a member of Southport u3a there is a good chance you will know about our Just One Thing group, the purpose of which is volunteering in the community.
If you don’t already know, here is what the group has coming up in the next few months.
1. Caring for Hesketh Park Sensory Garden – Starts Thursday 6th March at 1.30 pm
Fancy a few hours light gardening with friends? We will meet every fortnight on a Thursday afternoon at 1.30 for 3 hours–or as long as you wish to stay – at the Sensory Garden – top right hand corner of Hesketh Park The first meeting with be with Katie from Green Sefton on 6th March to take us through our paces. Wear layers, coat, sturdy shoes and gloves. Bring a flask if you would like to stop for a coffee. Hesketh Park will provide the tools, and we take our break in the Conservatory.
2. Painting the Railings in Victoria Park – Starts March 14th at 9.00 am
Every Friday morning a jolly u3a team rub down and paint the railing around Victoria Park. It’s good fun, only two hours, a nice way to spend time helping to smarten our parks and a very satisfying job. Victoria Park supplies all the paint, gloves and brushes.
If you would like to come along join this Group or email me and we will add you to the What App Group for Railings Painting.
3. Southport Flower Show – Show Garden Team Build starts end of July for August 14th – 17th 2025
No experience necessary, all help welcome
Can Southport u3a do a fourth Show Garden? Of course we can!!
For three years you have all made fabulous show gardens. Last year we won an astonishing Large Gold. Should we do it again? With a resounding ‘thumbs up’ response from last year’s team we’re creating another garden at Southport’s biggest event.
The first planning meeting is next Friday 28th at 10.30 at the Masonic Hall on Duke Street
